چکیده

Publish/Subscribe-based networks have emerged as suitable candidates for supporting new sort of devices in the Internet of Things. Despite this, there are few mobile broker models that integrate existing subscription and notification models while meet the requirements of these devices. The challenge of creating an uniform and loosely coupled content dissemination network of fixed and mobile devices is gaining importance; so, mobile brokers have to provide not only protocol compatibility but also event coordination and popularity. In this paper, we introduce mechanisms that allow mobile brokers to distribute their subscribers and coordinate the notification of events between fixed and mobile brokers. We propose a hot-topic algorithm that marks the event popularity and depending on this, delegates or recovers subscriptions. Furthermore, we also propose extensions for the MQTT protocol, in order to support our mechanisms. Finally, we show the results of our simulations and confirm that our mechanisms offer advantages for our considered IoT scenario.

Enabling Online Analysis of Notification Services

The new scale of the distributed systems due to the evolution of the Internet and new emergent technologies like RFID and wireless sensor networks has given rise to applications based on the dissemination of high volumes of information. In this context, the pub/sub paradigm has taken special relevance. In pub/sub systems, producers publish messages or events and these are delivered to subscribe...

Dealing with Heterogeneous Data in Pub/Sub Systems: The Concept-Based Approach

The event-based approach is well suited for integrating autonomous components or applications into complex systems by means of exchanging events. Event-based systems need an event dissemination mechanism to deliver relevant events to interested consumers. The publish/subscribe interaction paradigm has been gaining relevance in this context. One of the main characteristics of publish/subscribe s...

A Coordination and Discovery Service for QoS-enabled Data-Centric Publish/Subscribe in Wide Area Networks

A special class of Internet of Things called the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) operates in a large, distributed and dynamic environment comprising sensors all the way to large server clusters. A key requirement for IIoT is a scalable messaging service that supports multiple quality of service (QoS) properties, such as timeliness and resilience. Although existing pub/sub standards, such a...

CAPS: Content-bAsed Publish/Subscribe services for peer-to-peer systems∗

In this paper we introduce a content-based publish/subscribe (pub/sub) system that leverages the peer-to-peer substrate. Thus, we avoid to build a specific overlay for the pub/sub system and use the rendezvous model to meet both events and subscribers. On the contrary to what could be expected, our system suits for high-dimensional pub/sub domains, requiring very low memory capacity and hops to...

PubliyPrime: Exploiting Overlay Neighborhoods to Defeat Byzantine Publish/Subscribe Brokers

Publish/Subscribe (pub/sub) systems operating in hostile multi-domain environments face various types of internal and external threats. This paper focuses on internal threats manifested when pub/sub brokers misbehave by deviating from their prescribed protocol. Broker misbehavior may partially or fully compromise the pub/sub service integrity. In this paper, we exploit the notion of overlay nei...
